"Power" A Scientific Approach" is an older work on strength building. In my opinion, the book has far too many words, and far too few pictures to cover its topic well. The reading felt padded with words. All of the issues dealt with could have been and have been covered better with far fewer words elsewhere. The issues were mostly well covered. But I felt the answers were somewhat dated for 2018 readers.

Old book but one of the most important books I have ever read to produce a cohesive approach to power development.
All th concepts he wrote about in this book are still useful 20 plus years down the line. Essential reading for any serious practitioner of strength sports.
BEST book to date written by Dr. Squat! This book is packed with detailed information and explanations! Everything one needs to know about POWER and STRENGTH! Amazing book indeed!
I am a 62 year old certified fitness instructor who loves strength training (and still breaking personal records). I have learned so much from this book - I have read and studied it over and over. World record holder and PHD, DR SQUAT knows what he is talking about!
This is a really excellent book on developing strength and power for power sports. Dr. Hatfield is very well educated and provides clear reasoning for the principles that he discusses. This book is also a very easy read. Dr. Hatfield is an excellent author and writes with a clear coherent voice. If nothing else his discussion on compensatory acceleration makes the book worth reading. I will say that this is an old book and some of the principles that Dr. Hatfield discusses are no longer accepted within the sports science community, but the majority of the book is comprised of principles that are still accepted today. You can not rely on this book solely to develop a strength training program, you will need to read some more current books to adequately do that, but you will be at an advantage if you have the information in this book in addition to more current information.
